PETALING JAYA: Touts and illegal express bus operators will not be having an easy time this Raya Haji. The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has beefed up enforcement activities at bus terminals throughtout the peninsula for the festive season.
"SPAD will pay particular attention to the area around Pudu Sentral Bus Terminal," the commission said in a statement, adding that SPAD was increasing the presence of enforcement officers and patrolling activities. The commission also said it received complaints of express buses heading to destinations in the southern part of the peninsula picking up passengers from the area - a breach of SPAD's licensing conditions.
"All express buses operating to destinations in the southern part of the peninsula can only depart from the Southern Integrated Terminal in Bandar Tasik Selatan, "the statement read. SPAD said it had issued notices to seven operators who had committed the offence, adding that those found guilty could be fined up to RM500,00 or jailed up to two years, or both. The commission also reminded public transport users to buy tickets from authorised ticket counters and not from touts.
"Those found guilty of touting can be fined a maximum of RM50,00 or jailed a maximum of five years or both," it said.
